BluewireLAN #42

May 25th to 27th, 2012

Same venue and good times to be had.

With over 6 years of events under our belt and a 32Gb backbone on a full gig network, there is definetely some fun times to be had.

Friday Night - Social Night

Saturday night will be more game-focused, any ideas for fresh new LAN capable games are welcome.

Age of Empires 3 (Vanilla), Blur, Red Faction Guerrilla were popular last LAN, so we will be looking at similar titles. AoE 3 lagged horribly for no apparent reason, so perhaps some Rise of Nations or similar may replace it.

Alien Swarm (free 4-player co-op game available on steam) gained a lot of attention when it was first released, with it's entertaining and highly challenging game-play, its only shortcoming was the single campaign included at the time. Some time has passed since its release and the community around it have really stepped up with a huge array of fresh new maps, which we guarantee provide more than enough challenge, as well as a large variety of new campaigns and maps contained within them. I'm hoping to get a bit of that going on Friday and Saturday as it's fun, accessible and will run on nearly everyone's hardware.

The upgrade from 256kbps (shamefully slow) to 1500kbps (not as fast as we paid for) made a noticeable difference to web traffic and Steam logins, so we are hoping the 8k connection we have been promised should have a significant impact.

We are, as always, working on additional services to make gaming, and especially Steam related services more efficient and reliable.

Time: 5:00pm Friday 25th of May to 2:00pm Sunday 27th of May

Venue:
46, Main Hurstbridge rd.
Diamond Creek.
VIC
3089

Entry is via the service road off Brooks Cr.

Cost: Flat rate for the whole weekend

There is a basic internet connection which has recently been upgraded to allow steam validation and logons. However most other activity is blocked so that the connection remains up and stable.

What to bring:

1. A good friendly attitude
2. Your PC (tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse)
3. Headphones. Speakers are strictly forbidden.
4. 4+ port Power Board, and ALL the power cables you will need for your monitor and tower.
5. Network cable. 5 metres will do in most cases, if you can get a 7 or 10 meter one, it's always the best option just in case you get a seat some distance from the switch.
7. Food/Drinks or Money for food/drinks over the course of the weekend. Coles, IGA, Bakers delight, and numerous fast food shops are within 100m of the hall.
8. A blanket/pillows and other stuff to sleep on/in.

Optional: If you have space in the car, you can bring a suitable chair (office chair etc) to make your weekend more comfortable, chairs are supplied, but they are basic plastic ones. Remember, be reasonable. If your chair is too big, or you think we will say it's too big, don't expect to have us allow it in, as it will irritate other players.
